Authorities impose time limit for cargo transportation in the capital
The time limit on transporting cargo with the capital was imposed by the Transport Authority, effective from Sunday
New regulation is specific to businesses
Businesses will now be allowed to transport cargo from 6pm to 6am

Maldivian authorities have imposed a time limit on transporting cargo within the capital Malé City, effective from Sunday.

From April 1 onwards, businesses will not be allowed to transport cargo during the day time, with the economic ministry’s deputy Adam Thaufeeg saying that the regulation is specific to businesses.

Hence, businesses will now be allowed to transport cargo from 6pm to 6am. Authorities had initially planned to allow transport from 10pm, but had decided to revise the time following the various concerns raised by businessmen, in a meeting with Minister Mohamed Saeed.

According to an announcement by the Transport Authority on Friday, the limitation applies to cargo supply to wholesalers and retailers, as well as construction material. However, the new regulations allows gas delivery from 8:30am to 11am, in addition to the 12-hour time limit during the night time.

Maldives’ capital, Malé City is one of the most densely populated cities in the world.
