Opposition coalition’s parliamentary group leader, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been released from police custody.
Arrested from an opposition rally on March 16 under the state of emergency declared by incumbent President Abdulla Yameen, Solih was released on Wednesday. While the Criminal Court had given him a nine-day remand on March 19, which expires today, he was released without being presented to Court.
While police had previously informed that the Hinnavaru constituency MP was arrested under the state of emergency, his lawyer Nazim Abdul Sattar said that he is accused of obstructing law enforcement officers. Nazim added that his client’s arrest is “not applicable” under state of emergency.
MP Solih was arrested with Mid-Henveiru constituency MP Ali Azim, who was also given a nine-day remand sentence on March 19.
