MP Solih's case filed for prosecution
Solih was arrested at the largest anti-government rally seen since May Day 2015, on the 16th of March, Friday
Solih was remanded for 9 days on the 19th of March, which expires on 28th March, Wednesday
Charges were raised against Solih under sections 532 and 533 of Chapter 530 of the Maldives Penal Code

Opposition MDP's Parliamentary Group leader and MP for Hinnavaru constituency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's case has been sent for prosecution earlier Tuesday evening.

RaajjeMV has received information that the charges pressed against MP Solih were sent for prosecution at the PG office from Police Headquarters two days ago, on Sunday.

Charges were raised against Solih under sections 532 and 533 of the Maldives Penal Code, which are for resisting or obstructing a law enforcement officer or Custodial Officer and obstructing administration of law or other government function respectively. Both offenses are graded as class 1 misdemeanors which if committed follows a jail term of up to 1 year or imprisonment of 4 months and 24 days.

While charges pressed against Solih have been sent for prosecution, his lawyer told RaajjeMV that no such information had been given to him.

Solih was arrested along with Mid-Henveiru MP Ali Azim at the largest anti-government rally seen since May Day 2015, near the high security Republic Square zone after protestors had poured onto the streets of capital Male' City calling for the resignation of President Yameen on the 16th of March, Friday.

Solih and Azim were issued a remand of 9 days on the 19th of March, which expires on Wednesday.
