Criminal Court has remanded MP Faris Maumoon, Judicial Administrator Hassan Saeed, and Jumhoree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim’s son Ibrahim Siyad Qasim for the remainder of their trials.
MP Faris is charged with bribing fellow lawmakers to impeach pro-government Speaker Abdulla Maseeh and overthrow the government, as well as identity fraud.
MP Sinan is accused of accepting bribes and participating in a conspiracy to overthrow the government. Hassan Saeed was arrested for allegedly bribing Supreme Court justices and also accused of obstructing the state for going into hiding when police began looking for him. Siyad Qasim is accused of bribery.
Others remanded for the remainder of their trials include former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom (Faris’ father), Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, Justice Ali Hameed, MP Ilham Ahmed, and MP Abdulla Riyaz.
