Jailed Adhaalath Party (AP) leader Imran Abdulla has been taken to IGM Hospital in capital city Male’.

The opposition leader, who is serving 12 years in prison over a terrorism conviction, was taken to hospital to undergo a scan.

AP’s media committee president Ali Nazir said his family was informed of the hospital visit.

Imran was also taken to Male’ for a doctor’s visit earlier this month.

On the 28th of February, the party said doctors reported a serious increase in sodium in Imran's blood, advising him to undergo further tests.

Upon the authorities’ ignorance of the matter, Imran's family had appealed the relevant authorities to provide him medical attention, to which they had not received an appropriate answer.

AP claims that if Imran does not seek the required medical attention at the earliest, he may face life threatening repercussions including an increase of blood pressure and risk of cardiac arrest.

Imran is serving his twelve-year jail term in Maafushi prison after having been arrested at the mass 'May day' rally held on May 1st, 2015, on allegations that his speech at the demonstration inflicted the chaos that uproared within protesters that day.

He was sentenced in February 2016 after having been charged and found guilty of terror charges.
