The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has filed a case of medical negligence against the doctor employed at the state’s detention facility in Dhoonidhoo island.

MDP’s case against the Indian doctor accuses him of medical negligence and mistreatment of patients held at the prison. The case has been filed with the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives as well.

The party has accused the doctor of refusing to treat detainees when brought to him and treating them with hostility and temperament inappropriate of his profession.

MDP’s case also states that the doctor had lost his temper with a number of known patients and has, at times, refused to treat some of them based off of said rage.

The party said that the case has also been filed at other relevant institutions and that it decided to reach out to the Indian mission in the Maldives after.
