MDP\'s PG members meet the IPU delegation
A delegation of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has arrived in Maldives and met with Parliamentary Group (PG) members of ruling party PPM and opposition party MDP.
PPM’s PG leader Ahmed Nihan on Twitter said they have concluded a briefing with IPU’s human rights delegation.
MDP’s PG deputy leader Rozaina Adam also confirmed their meeting with the delegation. In a tweet, she said that PPM’s PG leader lied to them about Joint Opposition leader Ibrahim Solih being released from jail.
Ibrahim Solih was arrested at Friday night’s protest under the state of emergency decree and is still in Dhoonidhoo island’s prison.
Numerous MPs have been arrested at the protests calling on authorities to implement the Supreme Court order on February 1 to release political prisoners and reinstate opposition MPs.
Pro-government Speaker Abdulla Maseeh has also been obstructing lawmakers at the sittings. Speaker Maseeh has ignored the impeachment motion against him and have been using the military to retain his seat.
