Jailed former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has been questioned for a fourth time, over the allegations against him.
According to his lawyer Mohamed Faisal, Maumoon was questioned for the first time on Saturday, 33 days after arrest, where he denied the allegations, and informed the police that he will not cooperating with an ‘illegal investigation’.
In a tweet posted late Monday, Faisal said his client was questioned that night and that Maumoon stands ‘firm’ on his stance, “not to cooperate with an illegal investigation”.
My client president @maumoonagayoom was again questioned tonight on the alleged charges.

The former President was arrested on 5th February, not long after incumbent President, Maumoon’s half-brother, declared a nation-wide state of emergency. Hours after his arrest, Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, and Justice Ali Hameed were taken into police custody, also under the state of emergency.
While they were arrested on allegations of bribery and attempting to overthrow the government, police had sought to charge them with ‘destroying evidence’. However, the Prosecutor General’s Office has sent back the cases to police.
