PG Office sends back the cases against high-profile figures

Cases seeking to charge MPs Mahloof and Mohamed Abdulla sent back as well

Prosecutor General’s Office has sent the cases of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed, back to the police.

RaajjeMV understands that the cases were sent back to the police last week. However, the reason for this remains unclear.

While the three were arrested for bribery and plotting a coup, police is seeking to charge them with ‘destroying evidence’. The cases were forwarded to the PG office on 28th February.

RaajjeMV has learnt that the PG Office has also sent back the cases sent against Galolhu-South constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof, and Ihavandhoo constituency MP Mohamed Abdulla.

While the cases were forwarded to the PG Office for prosecution, it is reported that PG Aishath Bisham does not believe that the extension is valid. She is to have ordered officers to release those arrested under the state of emergency decree, which they had refused to do.

President Abdulla Yameen declared a state of emergency across the country on 5th February, after refusing to implement a Supreme Court ruling issued on days earlier. Hours after, former President Maumoon was arrested, as well as Chief Justice Saeed and Ali Saeed. They were all arrested under the ongoing State of Emergency.
