In a tweet posted following the police summons, Shahid wrote that President Yameen "should understand that I will never bow to his attempts to intimidate".

North-henveiru MP and former speaker Abdulla Shahid is to be summoned to police headquarters at 3:00 pm on Tuesday.

Shahid had been apprehended at an opposition rally on allegations of obstructing police duties, creating disorder and disrupting public peace.

Speaking to RaajjeMV after his summon, MP Shahid said that he will never obey President Yameen's tyrannical rule and that he will remain dutiful to himself, for the people of the country.

In a tweet posted following the police summons, Shahid wrote that President Yameen "should understand that I will never bow to his attempts to intimidate".

While the Maldives Police Service had released detainees of the March 2 protest, former Police Commissioner and Kinbidhoo MP Abdulla Riyaz is still under police custody. The police revealed that Riyaz can not be released since he was detained under the decree of the State of Emergency.

Ever since the State of Emergency was declared, a series of opposition protests have been ongoing throughout the whole nation, and many are being arrested from the nightly demonstrations in capital Male' city.
