Aminath Nadhira, former council member of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), has said that she was questioned by police for allegedly ‘hitting an officer’.

Nadhira was summoned to the police headquarters on Sunday, for questioning over the matter.

Noting that she has been accused of obstructing law enforcement officers and hitting an officer, Nadira said that the police had the requested to take a photo of her ‘for video analysis’.

She said that she denied the request, since the police requires a court order to do so as she is not under custody.

“I told them to come with a court order, and then I will allow them to take my photo,” added Nadhira.

A close associate of detained former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Nadira was arrested from an opposition gathering on the 4th of February; she was released the next day by the Criminal Court when presented for remand hearing.
