Kendhoo constituency MP Ali Hussain, who was taken into police custody from Saturday’s opposition protest, has been summoned to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) for questioning.
He is to present himself to the police headquarters in the capital Malé city at 10pm on Sunday, for questioning over ‘working to create chaos in the city’.
While the opposition has been holding nightly protests since the Supreme Court’s ruling on February 1, the lawmaker was arrested from the one held on Saturday night, after protesters moved to the streets.
Galolhu South constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof and Ihavandhoo Constituency MP Mohamed Abdulla, who were arrested from the opposition’s protest on Friday, were summoned to the police headquarters on Saturday.
Fresh summons was issued on Mahloof on Saturday, for a protest held in Maafushi Prison on February 3rd. The summon notice accuses the lawmaker of organizing the protest, ‘where protesters attempted to enter the prison’.
The joint opposition has been holding a series of protests since February 1, across the nation, calling on authorities to implement the Supreme Court ruling releasing nine high-profile prisoners.
