RaajjeTV has said that its journalist Hussain Hassan’s condition ‘is improving’.

Citing his doctors at ADK Hospital, the station’s chief operating officer Hussain Fiyaz Moosa said that Hassan’s condition is improving, and that he is to be released from hospital on Sunday.

He also added that Hassan will be sent to Sri Lanka for further treatment, Sunday afternoon.

Hassan was taken into police custody while covering the opposition rally on Friday evening, and was taken to hospital for treatment due to injuries sustained during and after arrest. Video footage shows him having difficulty breathing, as he was carried into a police vehicle from the police headquarters that night.

Noting that doctors he had sustained several internal injuries, doctors decided to admit Hassan for further observation.

Journalists at the scene on Friday had reported that police officers had directly targeted journalists covering the rally, using heavy pepper spray at close range.
