Galolhu South constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof has been summoned to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) for questioning, over a tweet sent last year.
According to his summon notice, he is wanted for questioning over a tweet posted on 3rd December 2017. However, the details of the said tweet were not mentioned in the notice.
The lawmaker is to present himself to police headquarters at 3pm on Thursday.
In a tweet posted, Mahloof said that he will go to the police without any fear, and that he will remain steadfast in the opposition’s work, even if he is ‘arrested and detained’. He was released from prison in June 2017, after a six-month stint for obstruction charges, following an arrest from an opposition rally in March 2015.
Mahloof, who returned to the Maldives in January after four months abroad, is facing fresh obstruction charges for having entered the parliament premises in July 2017, despite a military lockdown.
