GDh Gadhdhoo council president Rayyan Jamaal and AA Rasdhoo Council member Abdulla Anil have been given a five-day jail term.

They were among five who were arrested at an opposition protest in Male’ on Saturday.

The protest, held by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s youth wing, called on authorities to obey the Supreme Court order on February 1 to release nine political prisoners and reinstate 12 opposition MPs.

MDP youth wing’s president Mikael Naseem, the party’s economic committee member Safa’ath Ahmed, and party member and lawyer Sheena Mohamed were given five days under house arrest.
