Opp. heads to Supreme Court for the tenth day, to clarify status of 'dismissed' parliamentarians' seats
EC has announced that 12 opposition parliamentarians have lost their parliamentary seats
The announcement came after a Supreme Court ruling on floor-crossing

Members of the joint opposition headed to the Supreme Court for the tenth day, seeking to clarify the status of the seats of the 12 opposition parliamentarians.

Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court on Thursday, North-Henveiru constituency MP Abdulla Shahid said that the Court keeps telling them that they will be contacted over the matter, but they are yet to do so. He added that the delay in clarifying is concerning, but that it will not force them to stop their work.

Shahid noted that by not allowing the 12 parliamentarians to do what they were elected to do, “the rights of over 60,000 citizens have been violated”.

Following a Supreme Court ruling banning floor-crossing in July last year, the Elections Commission (EC) announced that it has disqualified 12 opposition parliamentarians.

Leaders of the joint opposition have sent letters to the Supreme Court, Elections Commission, as well as the Indian government, regarding the declaration that 12 lawmakers have lost their seats.

On Monday, EC member Ismail Habeeb Abdulrahman met with officials from the opposition, where they noted their concerns. He assured them that he will share the concerns with the other members of the Commission.
