Senior EU delegation to arrive in Maldives on Saturday
The mission will be in Maldives for three days

A senior mission from the European Union (EU) is to arrive in Maldives on Saturday, on a three-day working visit.
“The visit reflects the mutual interest for strengthening EU-Maldives dialogue and cooperation”, said EU Office in Sri Lanka , adding that the meetings “will allow reviewing the state of play of EU-Maldives cooperation and opportunities for further developments on various thematic issues such as the fight against climate change, environmental protection, the fight against terrorism and prevention efforts, and strengthening regional cooperation”.
“The political situation and the preparation of elections in 2018 will also be on the agenda,” it added.
The mission is led by External Action Service (EEAS) Deputy Managing Director for Asia Department, Paola Pampaloni, accompanied by the Head of the EU Delegation to the Maldives, Tung-Lai Margue, and the EEAS Head of Division for South Asia, Caroline Vinot.
They expected to meet with government officials, including foreign minister Dr. Mohamed Asim, environment minister Thoriq Ibrahim, home minister Azleen Ahmed, fisheries minister Mohamed Shainee and defence minister Adam Shareef, as well as the Parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh and attorney general Mohamed Anil expected as well.
The delegation will also meet representatives of the main political parties, both government and opposition, as well as officials from civil society organizations.
After concluding the visit to Maldives, the mission will head to Colombo, Sri Lanka.
