The meeting comes after authorities placed military guards at Gayoom’s home, supposedly due to a report of a death threat. The guards have reportedly been taking note of visitors.
Ambassador Rohde has earlier met with senior officials of the main opposition party MDP, which has been discussing with other coalition parties to field a single opposition candidate for the presidential election this year.
The Ambassador has also met with Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar.
