‘Livelihoods destroyed’ by govt. giving market stalls to PPM officials

Kendhoo MP Ali Hussain has said that the government is taking away the livelihood of families by giving market stalls to senior officials of the ruling party.
MP Hussain said this regarding a leaked screenshot of a Viber chat of government authorities offering stalls at the Traveler’s Market to Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) lawmakers.
The screenshot shows PPM’s Parliamentary Group leader Nihan Hussain Manik telling the group that the Housing Ministry has told him that stalls at the market are available to constituents of any MP who asks.
MP Hussain said that using market stalls to further enrich PPM’s senior officials affects the livelihood of numerous families.
At RaajjeTV’s Fala Surukhee programme on Tuesday, Deputy Mayor of Male’ Samau Shareef said that stalls and carts in Male’ are only being given to PPM members, and that the First Lady is in charge of the whole operation.
