Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s prison cell in Dhoonidhoo island has been searched after officers alleged he was hiding a mobile phone.

A source from the island said officers had searched the cell on Monday, and claimed that Adeeb had used said phone to contact sympathizes and have them ‘pressure’ the government.

RaajjeMV understands that a forensic team had travelled to Dhoonidhoo island from capital city Malé, while conventionally such searches are carried out by officers already stationed there.

Adeeb, who had previously been placed at the Maafushi prison, was transferred to Dhoonidhoo through a government order issued by the Home Ministry.

The search follows a number of posts on social networking platforms calling on the state to release Adeeb for medical treatment.
