Abdulla Riyaz, the deputy leader of Jumhoree Party (JP), has been summoned to court to hand over case documents.

The Kinbidhoo MP has recently been charged with influencing official conduct.

Riyaz shared the court summons for 9:00am on Wednesday, on Twitter.

In the tweet, Riyaz said he will not support President Abdulla Yameen no matter how many times he is charged.

“We will continue our efforts against the Yameen administration’s corruption and oppression. God willing, the opposition coalition will win the 2018 presidential election.”

Riyaz has been charged under the Penal Code’s Article 511(a) subsection (2), which states that direct or indirect communication with a public official in any manner is prohibited by law.

RaajjeMV understands that charges were raised after authorities discovered an alleged chat log with a public official during a probe of Riyaz's phone on March 27. But the PG has not provided any details.

If found guilty, MP Riyaz stands to serve a jail sentence of nine months and 18 days.
