The Ambassador to India has said that they have been receiving complaints from Maldivians of issues with their visas

Indian authorities have cancelled the visas of two parents and ordered their deportation.

RaajjeMV was told that their dependent visas were cancelled and they ordered to leave after being summoned to an Indian police station this month.

The parents, who have been living in India for a while, pleaded with authorities due to their inability to leave on short notice, one of the parents were ordered to leave within eight days while another was given 10 days, RaajjeMV was told.

The reason for the move has still not been disclosed.

RaajjeMV was also told that the parents have children under the age of 16 studying in India, and that the Maldives embassy has been notified of the situation.

Many Maldivian parents living in India are on dependent visas.

RaajjeMV has been unable to get a word from the Maldives embassy.

Ambassador to India Ahmed Mohamed had earlier said that Indian authorities have not notified of any changes to the visa policy, but that they have been receiving complaints from Maldivians of issues with their visas.

This comes at a time of increasing tension between Maldives and India, over Maldives signing an FTA with China, India’s rival.
