Jumhoree Party (JP)’s deputy leader Abdulla Riyaz has criticized President Abdulla Yameen for wearing a short-sleeved shirt during his meeting with Japan’s Foreign Minister Tarō Kōno.
The two met on Saturday night at Muliaage - the official residence of the President.
In a photo taken of the meeting, Minister Kōno is seen wearing a suit next to President Yameen who is in less official clothing.
Riyaz, the Kinbidhoo MP, in a tweet penned in Dhivehi noted that some might think that President Yameen was showing his contempt for foreign dignitaries by wearing less than professional clothing during meetings.
Minister Kōno has concluded his one-day trip to Maldives and returned to Japan after meeting the President.
