Nihan Hussain Manik, the PG leader of ruling party PPM, has called for the immediate arrest of a suspect in a sexual assault case.

Media outlets have reported that a younger brother of a senior member of the ruling party is being investigated over the rape of 19-year-old girl.

In a tweet on Saturday, Nihan also called for the most severe legal punishment for the accused.

RaajjeMV was told that the assault allegedly occurred last Wednesday night in an art studio in Male’. The suspect is a relative of a senior ruling party MP.

Since RaajjeMV was unable to contact the MP or his brother, we are unable to disclose their names on account of anti-defamation laws.

Other politicians, including opposition MPs Abdulla Riyaz and Ahmed Mahloof, have also called for his arrest.
