Jamiyyathul Salaf has condemned the show held by the Government to mark 2018, stating that the items seen on that show were irreligious and went against Islamic practices, principles and teachings.

Speaking to RaajjeMV Vice President of the organization, Sheikh Hassan Moosa Fikry, said that they condemned the event. He added that they will file case in Home Ministry to halt events of this nature.

Fikry also raised issue that the event was broadcast live on several media and said that they will be filing case in Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC).

Sheikh Fikry said that Salaf had never taken a political stance on any issue related to religion, adding that it was only political figures who had used religion as a political tool. Scholars, he said, only said what was in Islam irrespective of political standing.

The Sheikh had also called on all Maldivian citizens to refrain from irreligious activities of this nature.

He also weighed in on the matter of criticizing scholars. As such, Fikry said that we must be mindful of why scholars are criticized and attacked. He also vowed to remain steadfast on educating public on religion.
