A delegation of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), will visit the Maldives soon, says Galolhu South constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof.

The lawmaker made the announcement via twitter, following a meeting with Rogier Huizenga, IPU's Manager of Human Rights Programme.

Noting that he has briefed Huizenga on the how the current Parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed is "an imposter," as well as "how he conducts [parliament] sessions".

Mahloof further briefed the IPU official, over the continued persecution of opposition parliamentarians, including the cases of Maamigilli constituency MP Qasim Ibrahim and Dhiggaru constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon.

The MP traveled to Italy on Friday, to attend the 39th annual forum of Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA). The forum is to be held in Milan, from 27th to 28th November.

Prior to his departure to Milan, Mahloof accused the parliament speaker of ignoring PGA's invitations, adding that he will be speaking on "the importance of opposition parties and civil society participation to maintain a healthy democracy".

Mahloof, who left to Sri Lanka in early October, is yet to return to the Maldives since. While he continues to travel from one nation to the other, briefing the international community on various concerns and issues in Maldives, authorities had decided to suspend his passport in October. However, the suspension will commence once he returns to Maldives, and will last a period of three months.
