Corruption Allegations
Press Secretary claims ‘no memory’ of denying dollar deposit to Pres. account
Muaz previously denied US$1 mln deposited to account
Claimed no knowledge when questioned
ACC investigation revealed deposit

Press Secretary with the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali, has claimed that he had no recollection of having denied that US$ 1 million was deposited to a bank account registered under President Abdullah Yameen.

When questioned by RaajjeMV about whether the President had returned the deposited funds back to state, Muaz first questioned whether if he had denied such a statement. Moreover, the Press Secretary had denied even making a comment on the issue, adding that he had denied another story.

He had previously denied the claims when it first surfaced.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the corruption watchdog made the statement after reviewing the case of US$ 500,000 deposited to the said account. The report said that US$ 500,000 (MVR 7.7 million) was deposited to an account in MIB opened under President Abdullah Yameen’s name on 13th October. ACC said President Yameen and former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb were questioned over the case. However, ACC had filed the case, citing they could not summon shareholders and Company Secretary of SOF.
