The Judicial Services Commission (JSC), which expanded the number of judges at the High Court to 11 adjudicators, is yet to appoint judges to these positions.

The amendments to the judicature act was passed on June 18th, where clauses 27 and 35 had been changed.

While two judges had already been moved to other trial courts or High Court branches, the JSC had to appoint four more judges to the High Court.

The amendments, when they passed, stated that changes brought under them must be enforced within a period of three months after its ratification.

An official from the JSC said that they are working to appoint these judges and that they had held interviews and shortlisted a number of names.

The delay in appointing judges to the High Court is caused by the inability of commission members to come together for a sitting.

The JSC currently has 12 active members and the High Court has a bench of seven judges.
