Deputy Speaker Moosa Manik; claims FPID files went missing during the Nasheed administration

Parliament’s Deputy Speaker and Hulhuhenveyru Constituency MP Moosa Manik has claimed that the case files on FPID stored in a Parliament safe had gone missing.

Speaking in the rally held in Addu City on Saturday night, MP Moosa said this had happened during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed.

MP Moosa said the investigation into the FPID fraud was a complicate, complex and lengthy process. Therefore, with critical files missing, the Parliamentarian had called for a comprehensive investigation into it and to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Firing back at the corruption allegations made against this administration, the Parliamentarian said the corruption of previous administrations were "more". Referring to the construction of the Addu City Equatorial Convention Center, MP Moosa alleged that many had benefited from this project, with many having had purchased land in Sri Lanka. However, he did not reveal who had benefited from this.

MP Moosa also retaliated against President Nasheed’s call for an interim Government. Moosa said the interim period specified in the Constitution had already passed. If, he said, the opposition are to bring back this interim period, changes must be made to the Constitution.

The Parliamentarian had mocked the opposition, stating that the talk of an interim period was there so as to facilitate additional terms for former Presidents.

MP Moosa had also criticized President Nasheed, stating that opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) was in shambles as President Nasheed’s family members had taken over the Party. This, he said, was clearly demonstrated from the internal elections in the Party.
