Aslam with President of Broadcom Mohamed Shahyb: Aslam is the latest recipient of social housing scheme
Maldives Broadcasting Commission’s Vice President Mohamed Aslam and his spouse are the latest recipients of Government’s social housing scheme.
RaajjeMV understands that both Aslam and his wife had applied for the flats constructed in Dhihdhoo island in Haa Alif Atoll under the social housing scheme. Aslam hails from Dhihdhoo island while his wife hails from another island.
Aslam had contested in the ‘A’ category, applicable for residents of the island, while his wife had contested in the ‘B’ category, applicable for individuals from other islands. Aslam’s form number is 25-A/2015/387. His wife’s number is 251-B/2015/51.
Aslam’s form number was fifth in the first list published by Housing Ministry, while his wife’s was second under their respective categories.
The final list showed that only Aslam’s wife was the recipient. Rules dictate that if a married couple receives two flats, then one has to forgo the flat and the duo’s numbers will be published as one owner. In the final list, the duo is ranked 15th place.
When questioned by RaajjeMV Aslam said he had no knowledge that he had received a flat. RaajjeMV had questioned the Commission member with the information on the list, he said both of them had received high marks on evaluation.
When questioned about the flats, Aslam once again denied that he or his wife had received any flats and that he had not relinquished his rights over any flats.
The issue of only publishing form numbers on the lists of recipients had previously come under public scrutiny. The opposition allege that this was done so as to covertly award flats to activists and Government officials.
Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizz had denied to reveal information as they were private and confidential.
