Ex-PG heads to trial, following failed resolution
Prosecution wanted to arrive at a decision in trial

The case submitted by former prosecutor general Muhthaz Muhsin will now go on trial, after it failed the dispute resolution stage.
Muhuthaaz Muhsin, who is serving a 17-year jail sentence, had asked for an injunction to halt disciplinary actions against inmates.
Muhsin asked for the injunction during a hearing over a case against the Maldives Correctional Services – the statutory body overseeing the local prison system.
He had noted that the Correctional Services does not, at present, provide inmates with a copy detailing the disciplinary act and reasons for why it was imposed. Officers are required to provide full disclosure of the claims made against them and issue a written letter detailing it, under the Prisons Act.
The case went through the dispute resolution stage at Civil Court, which failed to yield any result. State prosecutors wanted a resolution through trial and the case had been sent forth for trial.
State prosecutors said the disciplinary measures are visible on the notice board. However, Muhthaz alleged that he was not allowed to leave his area and therefore not able to see the notice board.
The former Prosecutor General was jailed for issuing a trumped-up Court order warranting the arrest of incumbent President Abdullah Yameen.
