Will not tolerate gov't officials holding late night meetings at Supreme Court, shows influence in court: Opposition
Senior government officials, including attorney general Mohamed Anil, were seen at the Supreme Court late Friday night
The opposition highlighted that a case is currently at Supreme Court, awaiting a verdict hearing, regarding the disqualification of four opposition lawmakers
The joint opposition also expressed concern over the decision to halt the security services provided to some of the Supreme Court judges

The joint opposition has said that it will not tolerate senior government officials having late night meetings at the Supreme Court, adding that this shows influence in the courtrooms.

The opposition released a statement on Saturday, following reports that Attorney General Mohamed Anil and other senior government officials were at Supreme Court late Friday night, leaving around 2:20 am.

Condemning the act, the joint opposition noted that 'this late night' meeting had taken place at a time when there is much chaos in the country. It also highlighted that a case is currently at Supreme Court, awaiting a verdict hearing, regarding the disqualification of four opposition lawmakers, calling on the government stop influencing the Supreme Court judges.

Noting that AG Anil was also present at the Supreme Court, the statement highlighted he is a person of interest in the case.

Furthermore, the joint opposition expressed concern over the decision to halt the security services provided to some of the Supreme Court judges, which is guaranteed under the Constitution, condemning the act.

It also called on AG Anil and government officials to stop their unlawful activities, including undermining the independence of the Supreme Court, and obstructing justice.
