Those who ‘obstruct’ the conduct of judges will be penalized, the Department of Judicial Administration, which operates under the Supreme Court, has warned.
In a statement on Monday, the DJA said that it would impose sanctions on anyone or party that acts in a manner that can be described as them attempting to hinder the conduct of judges and compromise their safety.
The statement begins with quoting Article 141 of the constitution, where the DJA reiterates that adjudicators at local courts are charged with guaranteeing justice and fairness in the community.
The DJA further said that while the public has constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of expression, they must respect the authority of the judiciary and the courts.
The department had also said, if such comments come from a person in the legal profession, their license or employment may be terminated.
The statement advices the public to refrain from aforementioned acts and making statements that obstruct court justice.
The DJA further called on the public to not make comments that may compromise the sanctity of an ongoing case.
