Ooredoo Masrace returns for S13 with grand prize pool
The 13th season of Ooredoo Masrace is slated for August and will see 16 teams competing for a prize pool of MVR 126,000.

Ooredoo Maldives is bringing back the Ooredoo Masrace for a newer, more exciting season.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, Ooredoo Maldives announced the highly anticipated Ooredoo Masrace 2024 event.

The telecommunications giant revealed that this annual fishing competition has become an integral part of our community and is back for the 13th season.

Promising that the event will be bigger and more exciting, the telecom provider stated that the event will be taking place across three different islands this year; Himmafushi island of Kaafu atoll, Naifaru island of Lhaviyani atoll and Thinadhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll.

The 13th season of Ooredoo Masrace is slated for August.

Since the beginning, Ooredoo Masrace has captured the hearts of communities across the nation and brought people together through the joy of fishing.

The telecom provider expressed pride in hosting this event that showcases the rich fishing heritage of Maldives, as an activity deeply rooted in the Maldivian culture.

Ooredoo Maldives hosted a press conference in Himmafushi on Wednesday, to announce its partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources.

During the presser, Ooredoo opened registrations for the event as well.

Speaking at the presser, Minister of State for Fisheries and Ocean Resources Mohamed Muthalib stated that the aim is to empower communities nationwide to uphold the traditions of Maldives and spread awareness on safeguarding the country’s marine resources for future generations.

Further, the state minister encouraged members of youth communities nationwide to participate in such events as it fosters a sense of companionship and allows them to connect with the traditional values of Maldives.

Ooredoo Maldives noted that interested participants from across the three islands can register through July 24.

Each team must comprise of between eight to 12 members including a captain and officials.

The competition will kick off in Himmafushi island on August 9, in Thinadhoo City on August 16 and in Naifaru island on August 23.

A maximum of 16 teams will compete in this edition of the Masrace, from each sector and in case of an overwhelming number of registrations, the company will take a draw to select the teams to participate in the event.

Teams that are not selected through the draw will be entitled to a full refund, according to Ooredoo.

The prize pool for this year’s Masrace event total MVR 126,000 including MVR 25,000 promised for the team that secures the first place, MVR 10,000 for the team that comes second and MVR 5,000 for the third-place winner.

In addition to this, the telecom provider will be selecting a “Best Fisherman” and a “Best Fisherwoman”, to receive MVR 1,000 each.

All government institutions, corporates, and the public can join this exciting event.

Ooredoo revealed that the 13th season of Ooredoo Masrace will not only be a thrilling competition, but also a celebration of the island nation’s fishing culture and a platform that showcases the traditional fishing techniques of Maldives.
