25 political appointees at tourism ministry, over MVR 700,000 as monthly salary

A total of 25 political appointees have been made to the Ministry of Tourism by the incumbent administration, with more than MVR 700,000 being spent for their salaries every month.
Under the Right to Information Act, a local news outlet sought details of political appointees made by the incumbent administration between 17 November 2023 and 2 April 2024, as well as the details of the amount they receive as salaries.
In response to the inquiry by the news outlet, the Ministry of Tourism has revealed that a total of 25 political appointments have been made to the ministry during this period and that a total of MVR 704,000 is spent on their salaries every month.
Detailing the salaries of political appointees, the ministry revealed that Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal is entitled to a salary of MVR 66,000 per month.
Further, the two individuals appointed to the posts of Ministers of State for Tourism, are entitled to a monthly salary of MVR 43,500 and 11 individuals appointed as Deputy Ministers of Tourism are entitled to MVR 31,500 each, per month.
Nine individuals who have been appointed as Senior Political Directors receive MVR 25,500 as monthly salaries and the two individuals appointed as Political Directors receive salaries of MVR 20,500 every month.
