The hearings of the identity theft case raised against Dhiggaru Constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon is set for 10.30 am on Monday.

The charges say that MP Faris had illegally used the logo and flag of ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives on March 22nd.

He was arrested on the 18th while the hearings of the case were ongoing. He was arrested on charges of attempted bribery. Criminal Court on the following day decreed that he must be detained for the duration of the trial.

MP Faris will be asked to respond to the charges in the hearings. He had refused to respond to the charges in the hearings held on the 23rd, citing that the prosecution had failed to hand over documentation relevant to the case. He also said that he had not been granted access to meet his lawyers.

MP Faris’ father and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom had attended the hearings held on the 23rd.
