The Maldivian first couple has attended a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Monument to the People’s Heroes in the Tiananmen Square, in China.
They attended the Wreath Laying Ceremony on Thursday, as part of their ongoing state visit to China.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed departed to the People’s Republic of China on a state visit on January 7.
The state visit is being conducted upon an official invitation from the President of China, Xi Jinping.
The first couple is accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials during the visit.
The ceremony saw the Chinese Military Band playing the National Anthems of Maldives and China.
President Muizzu laid the wreath and paid a silent tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives fighting for China's independence.
The Monument was built as a national memorial to the martyrs of China's revolutionary struggle in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Maldivian First Couple is undertaking a visit to China at a time relations between India and Maldives have soured once again, over posts on social media platform ‘X’ by deputy ministers close to the president.
