Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has called on all to choose the path of justice in spite of the attacks.

He made the statement in a tweet posted on Friday, calling on to free the arrested MPs.

Members of Parliament for Thulusdhoo Constituency Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim and Maduvvari Constituency Mohamed Ameeth Ahmed Manik have been arrested for breaking Police ranks and entering Parliament grounds.

President Maumoon’s son and Dhiggaru Constituency MP Faris Maumoon has been detained on charges of attempted bribery. Criminal Court had ordered that he is to be kept in detention for the duration of the trial. Faris’ lawyers say that he is being detained illegally.

RaajjeMV understands that more opposition MPs are to be detained. The spate of arrests began after the Government lost their super majority status in the Parliament.
