Identity was stolen by people from PA, not Faris: Maumoon

No action was carried out that warranted removal as Leader of Party

PPM was stolen by a group called PA

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has stated that the only people who had stolen any identity were those who had come into the Party from People’s Alliance (PA).

Speaking at the joint opposition rally held on Sunday night in Maafannu Kunooz, the former President said that “PPM was hijacked by a few from PA”.

President Maumoon said that those who had come into PPM, had, under guise, won seats in parliament from PPM and now have reverted to their original status.

Therefore, he said it would be more appropriate to file identity theft charges on them rather than his son and Dhiggaru Constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon.

He noted that he was elected as PPM’s Leader with a resounding majority and added that he had not done anything that warranted illegally stripping him from his position as Leader.

President Maumoon further noted that MP Faris is one of the key individuals in forming the Party. As such, he said MP Faris was the one who had gone to Elections Commission to register the Party with the first 50 signatures. He added that MP Faris was being treated against Criminal Procedures Act.
