The sixth amendment to the Local Council Elections Act has been ratified.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ratified the sixth amendment to the Local Council Elections Act on Sunday.
Upon ratification, the act has been publicized in the government gazette.
The People’s Majlis passed the bill at the 14th sitting of its third session, on October 25 this year.
The amendment stipulates the Elections Commission of Maldives to officially notify individual applicants of their candidature acceptance status in writing within five days of submission.
Further, the amendment specifies procedures for disputing the Election Commission’s decision on the eligibility of applicants.
It goes on to stipulate that those wishing to challenge the EC’s decision in court, must wait until the five days granted to the commission to communicate its judgement regarding the acceptance of the application, have passed.
