The Elections Commission of the Maldives has announced the provisional results of the 2023 Presidential Election.
The First round of the 2023 Presidential Election was held on 09 September.
With a total of 282,395 eligible voters, polling kicked off at 8am on Saturday and queues closed by 4pm. The first round of the election saw 79.84 percent of eligible voters exercising their right to vote. As such, the number of eligible voters who exercised their right to vote is 225،486.
The provisional results;
- Candidate Number 1, independent candidate Umar Naseer: 6343 votes
- Candidate Number 2, independent candidate Hassan Zameel: 327 votes
- Candidate Number 3, MDP's candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih: 86،161 votes
- Candidate Number 4, PNC's candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu: 101،635 votes
- Candidate Number 5, JP's candidate Ghasim Ibrahim: 5460 votes
- Candidate Number 6, independent candidate Faris Maumoon: 2979 votes
- Candidate Number 7, The Democrats candidate Ilyas Labeeb: 15،839 votes
- Candidate Number 8, MNP's candidate Mohamed Nazim: 1907 votes
According to the results, 4,835 votes were invalid. The number of valid votes were 220،651.
With neither candidate having been able to secure 50 percent of the votes in Saturday’s presidential election, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Dr. Mohamed Muizzu are headed to a second round.
The second round of voting is scheduled for 30 September 2023.
