The island council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) of Bilehdhoo island in Faafu atoll remains grateful for the progress brought to the island under the incumbent administration.
As part of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed’s recent tour of five islands in Faafu atoll, they visited Bilehdhoo island on Sunday.
President Solih sat down with members of Bilehdhoo council and WDC for discussions as part of the visit, where the Maldivian leader expressed gratitude to the council and residents for their warm hospitality upon his arrival.
He shed light on the importance his administration places on seeking the input of local councils and residents in all relevant matters, particularly those directly impacting them.
The meeting saw councilors expressing gratitude for the administration's development projects, acknowledging and accepting the advancements and progress brought forth.
Assuring the president that they trust his administration, the councilors highlighted that the island community has observed more development over the course of the past four years, in comparison to the other administrations.
President Solih was also briefed on the concerns facing the island community including on financial constraints to the council, the lack of sports grounds and facilities, the necessity for a school library, and the adoption of renewable energy in government offices and institutions.
Sunday’s meeting also saw WDC members acknowledging and expressing gratitude for the transformative changes and revisions introduced to decentralized governance by President Solih.
WDC members went on to shed light on their financial concerns which they raised as crucial and pressing issues that required to be addressed.
Acknowledging the primary concerns raised by the island community regarding land constraints, the president announced the initiation of a land reclamation project, which is expected to commence alongside the harbor development project.
President Solih also assured the council and WDC members of his commitment to ensure comprehensive development across the nation.
Further, the president assured them that he would engage in discussions with relevant institutions to explore solutions to the concerns raised during the meeting.
