Chief Justice Abdulla Bari, of the Criminal Court, has been summoned to the Judicial Services Commission (JSC), the statutory overseer of the local judiciary.

RaajjeMV understands that Bari was summoned early on Monday morning, and the decision to summon him was made at a JSC meeting on Sunday.

The chair of the JSC at the time the meeting was held, Judge Ali Hameed, is currently admitted to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. He has been admitted to the hospital there since Thursday.

Bari has been serving as the Chief Justice of the Criminal Court since August, 2016 after the controversial Judge Abdulla Mohamed was transferred to the Family Court.

The judge is to adjudicate on the state’s case against the opposition Jumhooree Party’s Qasim Ibrahim at 1:30 pm on Monday.

The JSC and the Criminal Court are yet to comment on the matter.
