Imran claims imminent victory

Adhaalath Party Deputy Leader and Sheikh Imran Abdullah’s lawyer Ali Zahir says Imran had been transferred to an ordinary cell, after he was removed from house arrest.

Imran had been serving his sentence in house arrest for the past month. The Government’s decision to transfer him to house arrest came suddenly on Friday evening.

In a tweet posted following the transfer, Ali Zahir said that Sheikh Imran was transferred to an ordinary cell after he had given an interview to RaajjeTV. Previously, Imran was housed in the Special Protection Unit.

Raajje.mv understands that Sheikh Imran is currently housed in the cell adjacent to the one occupied by Hamid Ismail, one of those arrested in connection to the massive graft of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

Imran was sentenced guilty on terror charges for inciting violence in the May Day protests of 2015. The interview he granted to RaajjeTV on Friday was the first he had given following the guilty verdict.

In this exclusive interview Imran said the crimes of incumbent regime were now becoming clear to public, appealing all to remain steadfast and to be courageous. He said success of the opposition were becoming clear, claiming that victory was imminent.
