The Presidential Inquiry Commission on Disappearances and Deaths (DDCom) has stated that, Mohamed Munaz, who is one of the accused in connection with the 2014 abduction and murder of journalist Ahmed Rilwan, met with former President Abdulla Yaameen and shared details of the murder with him.
DDCom stated this during the Press Conference held at the President's Office on Thursday.
During the Press briefing, member of the commission, Misbah Abbas stated that the commission has learned that Mohamed Munaz, native of Omadhoo island of Thaa Atoll, met with the former President before he left the country.
Misbah went on to say that Yaameen even assisted Munaz in his departure from the country. Misbah stated that Munaz shared the details of the murder with the former President, while omitting details of his own role in the murder. Misbah however noted that investigations have found that Munaz shared all the other details of the murder with Yaameen, including how the murder took place and who was involved in the act.
Misbah noted that this information was obtained from someone who has a close relationship with Munaz.
DDCom had earlier disclosed that Munaz departed to Syria in 2017. The commission also noted that Munaz used to recruit people to join the war in Syria.
