JP's logo dispute hearing scheduled for Wednesday
The hearing is to be held at 13:00
The case was filed on June 6th
It seeks to annul the Elections Commission’s order banning the party from using its flag and logo

The Civil Court’s first hearing for the opposition Jumhooree Party’s (JP) case, over having been asked to change its flag and logo by the Elections Commission, has been scheduled for Wednesday.

The hearing, for the case filed on 6th June, is to be held at 13:00, said JP’s spokesperson, Ali Solih.

The JP’s case at the Civil Court seeks to annul the commission’s order banning JP from using their flag and logo. The party was consequently asked to change them by the June 1st.

The Elections Commission’s order cites a Home Ministry regulation on use of the national flag – including the national emblem and the President’s official standard -- claiming that they strongly resemble JP’s logo.

The party maintains that the commission does not have the authority to issue such an order and the Home Ministry’s regulations are not legally binding.
