The state prosecutors have taken the death sentence against Ibrahim Shahum, charged with murdering Ahusan Basheer, to the Supreme Court.
The case was filed in the Supreme Court on August 30, an official from the Prosecutor General's office spokesperson said.
The accused in the case are Hassan Shimaz Mohammed Suwaadh; Ibrahim Shahum Adam. In 2014 they were found not guilty of the crime and the High Court recently ruled that they were guilty.
The two were convicted based on their dying declarations. The judge ruled that the two men were guilty and that courts in many countries take into account the speech of a person who has no hope of escaping death.
Shimaz was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Shahum was sentenced to death.
The High Court overruled the Criminal Court's ruling in connection with the case. Therefore, the prosecution headed to the Supreme Court to confirm the ruling.
