Ministry of Health has publicized “Maldives Health Statistics 2020”.

The book was released at a special function held at the Health Ministry this Sunday.

Special Advisor on Social Policy, Dr. Mustafa Luthfy was the chief guest of the function.

This book includes important data such as, birth and death, burden of diseases, public health and human resources in the health sector. Some of the statistics included in the book shows that 40 percent of medical professionals working in the Maldives are specialists.

According to the statistics publicized, 59 percent of nurses working in the Maldives are locals.

The statistics shows that more than half of the births in Maldives were delivered via cesarean.

Ministry's statistics shows that 35 percent admissions were due to Non-Communicable Diseases.

The book also includes a chapter on the COVID-19 situation of Maldives. It is reported that more than 13,000 cases of COVID-19 was reported in the Maldives in 2020.

Health Ministry states that the findings of the Maldives Health Statistics 2020 will help in evidence-based decision making and to formulate and strengthen policies for improvement of the health sector. In addition, the findings will also assist in outcome-based planning of health programs and health interventions.
