Satellite education has officially been inaugurated in the Maldives.
Vice President Faisal Naseem inaugurated satellite education during a ceremony on Monday, where the Satellite Hub Centre in Huravee School located Malé City was launched.
The center connects satellite schools in three islands; Fehendhoo Island in Baa Atoll, and Thinadhoo and Rakeedhoo Islands in Vaavu Atoll.
VP Naseem stated that the inauguration of satellite education is part of the administration’s broader vision for decentralized development.
Taking the podium at the event, the vice president noted that students from the three islands have long desired for the opportunity to continue their education in their respective islands, with which he emphasized that the new opportunity will bring ease to the students and their families.
VP Naseem also shed light on the government’s efforts to improve the education sector and decentralized development.
With each satellite school provided with staff by two on-site facilitator teachers, an administrative officer and a school helper, the satellite schooling concept was adopted in remote islands that lack public schools.
The satellite schools are connected to the Satellite Hub Centre via high-speed internet.
