President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed a new President and Vice President of the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM).
Mariyam Muna was appointed HRCM President, whereas Dr. Ahmed Adham Abdulla was appointed HRCM Vice President on Wednesday.
The appointments were made under the powers vested to the president under Section 8 of the Human Rights Commission Act.
The new HRCM President was a member of the commission prior to her appointment as president and has experience in multiple posts, including Corporate Secretary in Asia Shipping and International Trading and other high-ranking government positions as well as posts in NGOs.
Muna attained her Master of Business Administration from Edith Cowan University, Australia.
Holder of a Doctor of Philosophy in Law (International Law) from the University of Wollongong, Australia, Dr. Abdulla was also a member of HRCM before the promotion. He earlier served as a lecturer in public international law at Villa College.
Dr. Abdulla is a recipient of the President's Award for Achieving the Highest Academic Qualification and the Australia Leadership Award as well.
